Acupuncture for Pain Relief

At the Witney Physiotherapy Centre, our physiotherapists are trained in the use of acupuncture for pain relief and many of our patients have benefitted from its use.

Acupuncture is one of the oldest recorded forms of medicine, having been used for over 3000 years in China., but it is also a modern recognised technique that works by stimulating the brain to release natural pain relieving chemicals or endorphins.

Research has shown that 70% of people gain relief from pain with acupuncture.  It does not work for everybody and every condition, but frequently good results are achieved when more conventional medicine has failed.  There is nothing spiritual about it and patients do not need to believe in it for it to work.  The effects of acupuncture are cumulative, with a build up of effect as treatment progesses.

Acupuncture administered by a trained professional is safe and is performed with single-use sterile needles.  There is normally only a temporary mild discomfort as the fine needles are inserted, which indicates the treatment is taking effect.

Patients at the Witney Physiotherapy Centre can expect the highest standards of care from Physiotherapists who have undergone post graduate training and are registered with the  Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP).  Physiotherapist are in the unique position of being able to combine acupuncture with other natural treatment methods such as exercise, manual therapy and relaxation techniques.
